Mens Style Blog

The stylish commencement of Mr. Gentry opens with a telling tale of hearty practice in mens style thinking. Mr. Gentry is the anonymous name used to bring style musings and insider observations from the working world of our industry to the outside net. Defined as being "the condition or rank of a gentleman", my interpretation is a classically style minded man with a urban interest of dress who pursues the Gentry Style. Mr. Gentry is not just about things being in the "Now", this is simply because by the time I have finished typing the word now its too late, now is already then.

Poppin-Up with Original Penguin

Bread & Butter, not the delicious pudding your grandmother used to make you or the world wide pre-dinner hunger clencher, i'm talking about the trade show known for its more commercial, urban and denim-wear brands, the power brands such as Levis, G-Star RAW, Adidas, GUESS and even CK Calvin Klien.

However one brand which is huge in the states and quite recognisable around the UK and Europe is Original Penguin, the classic preppy apparel provider for those of a more relaxed style. They have opened up their first Pop-up store in Berlin this week just in time to hit the thousands of international travelers in town for the trading festivities.

The store, located in the “Mitte” a very stylist and culturally rich area of Berlin and is a linkup with the store everyone should have heard about - Trüffelschwein, who's brand stockist list (including YMC, Paul & Joe, Folk) keeps true to the cool of Berlin.

The store will retail select pieces from the current AW09 collection, and will have the brands famous Earl polo in a selection of special colours for the holiday season including; Black & Yellow, Blue & Orange and White & Red.

For those of you who are not able to get out to Berlin, you can either buy online at ASOS.com or visit the London store located in Covent Garden.

PRESENT London

Anyone passing by a sign above a store saying GOLDEN HORN CIGARETTE COMPANY, should most certainly take a peak inside, as this is a store called PRESENT, is adding to Shoreditch's great shopping selection.

Pronounced like "i present to you", the store itself is a reflection of the clothes contained within; beautifully-formed, is of selective taste and has a old world mix of style with very new finishes. Selling not only the obvious brands like Folk and Raf by Raf, but also NDG, Haverstock, Reigning champ and the original version of the Comme boot made by Trickers for a price much less than that of CDG. On top of these great offerings PRESENT also retail their very own range of t-shirts.

Fashion's Night Out With Oliver Sweeney

Picture this, Vogue magazine spearheading a global shopping drive in a bid to help the recession, which has hit the fashion industry. It shall be named ‘Fashion’s Night Out’, could take place as soon this Thursday and would see participating stores staging special events for the night.

Well, you need not picture this for to much longer as its already here, and you guys know you will be made to attend by your partners, however much you try and make a excuse!

Now, this evening is of course aimed at the hordes of female shoppers out there wanting a bargain and an excuse to spend spend spend, but my concern if firmly placed at the heart of the male agenda, where forced labour (befitting a worker donkey) will ensue as you become chief bag carriers!

Well gentleman, I’m pleased to be the bearer of good news, as one brand will surely become your stable of rest on Thursday evening, making time pass a little more quickly in your direction – welcome onto your life Oliver Sweeney.

The British brand has its flagship store on New Bond Street, within the central catchment area for this Vogue night out, and have decided to put on a selection of complimentary male focused activities, including; Whisky tasting from primer brand Balvenie, shoe shining service provided by innovative social enterprise ‘’Street Shine’ and topping this all off will be 20% discount on all full priced products including the famous shoes, coats, gloves and accessories.

I think you may just be able to see the end of what could be a very long road ahead…

Oliver Sweeney shall be open from 6-11pm, 66 new Bond Street, London. http://www.oliversweeney.com

A.P.C Dover Street, London

A.P.C, the popular french fashion label has arrived in London's Dover Street curtsey of headman Jean Touitou. The spacious store is arranged over two floors stocking the complete menswear and womenswear collections.

I can not really warrant wearing the title of major "brand fan" as i have only flirted with the idea of buying pieces from their collections, mostly due to the steep pricing compared to that of lux basics brand Albam, but i know the masses of A.P.C followers will be salivating at the first UK store opening.

ALBAM : Modern Crafted Clothing

ALBAM, the brand of menswear basics that attracts an endless stream of gentlemanly dressers and regular guys too, are out shining their rivals in the US and Japan right here from their home turf.
Not to be mistaken for run-of-the-mill basics, Albam sets itself apart by having sound British design, just enough quirkiness, quality fabrics and simplified-technical construction - all bound together with a philosophy of “modern crafted clothing”, its the brand essential for everyman’s wardrobe.
Founded in Nottingham with only 7 styles in their first selling season, Albam has grown at a steady pace to include shirting, outerwear, shoes, jeans, t-shirts…the list goes on. With an online store presence and a first standalone in Beak Street, London (pictured above) this British minded brand seek only to produce their garments right here in England, and if they simply can’t produce it here they make sure its made as close to home as possible.
Further plans are set for a second store in East London and there is talk of a made-to-measure store also. Check them out online at:

YMC opens its doors to London

Formed in 1995 by Frazer Moss and Jimmy Collins, British label YMC opened its first shop on Friday in the most central of locations on London's Poland Street. With surprising interior surrounds of rattle-snakes and two-headed crows, the store houses the new Autumn/Winter collection of trademark modern-functional style, but also managing to incorporate a truly great selection of vintage pieces - this is a Mr. Gentry essential!
